About us
Founded in 1940 by J.R. DuBose, Tel-Wink Grill has been a beloved Houston staple for generations. A Texas native and U.S. Army veteran who served under General Patton in World War II, Mr. DuBose returned home to build a legacy in hospitality, opening several restaurants including Tel-Wink Grill, Century Coffee Shop, and Adobe Grill in Taos, New Mexico. Known for his strong community values, he was also a founding member and deacon at River Oaks Baptist Church. His dedication to service, both in the military and the community, lives on in the spirit of Tel-Wink today.
After taking over in the late 90s Jimmy and Peggy Bokos were the heart and soul of Tel-Wink Grill. A fixture behind the counter and in the kitchen, Jimmy and Peggy carried on the tradition of home-style cooking and warm hospitality that made Tel-Wink a Houston favorite. Under his care, the diner remained true to its old-school charm—handwritten tickets, hearty plates, and a welcoming smile for every guest.
They believed in consistency, community, and good food done right. His quiet dedication and strong work ethic kept Tel-Wink thriving through generations of loyal customers. Though he passed in 2020, his legacy lives on in every cup of coffee poured and every breakfast served. Tel-Wink remains a tribute to his life, his love for the diner, and the many memories he helped create.
Today, Tel-Wink Grill is proudly run by Vageli, Peter, and Christos Stathatos, owners of Don Carlos Mexican Restaurant, who continue the legacy with the same dedication to quality, tradition, and community. They’re committed to preserving the classic diner feel while introducing fresh touches for a new generation of guests.
